Virtual Woodshed was founded in 2008 by guitarist and teacher Brian Williams as an alternative to the amateur and poorly produced video lessons on Youtube. A lifelong player, student and teacher of music, Brian has been passionate about music as long as he can remember. While there were already a million teachers out there regurgitating the same old shred guitar licks, we saw that there was a void of instruction for the more honest American genres like jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, swing and roots rock. The internet has created an unprecedented opportunity to keep these important genres alive and although our concept is not entirely unique, our teachers are. And we feel we can offer a perspective on music that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. For instance, instead of going to Youtube and looking for someone trying to sound *like* an authentic jump blues guitarist, you can come to our site and take a lesson from Charles Wheal, an authentic jump blues guitarist. Or instead of looking for tips from others on how to play like Wayne Henderson, you can come to our site and actually see Wayne Henderson show you how it’s done. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve the site. We’re also interested to hear your requests on instructors we should feature. Our studio is mobile and all our videos are shot on location. So, if we can arrange a lesson with your favorite player, we will go and shoot it! Please keep those cards and letters coming. Our goal is to produce the broadest library of quality roots music instructional videos under one roof and to have them available at the lowest possible price. Many thanks for your support. Best Regards, Brian Williams - founder |
